Kuchipudi
Kuchipudi dance tells the universal story with mime, expression, body movements and footwork patterns. It is a unique style amongst the classical dances of India. It speaks through manifold rhythmic patterns, melodic gestures and subtle facial expressions, creates a new world of ecstasy and gives an ethereal existence. A classical dance style of India, originating from the temples and Yakshagana Theatre of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the South of India. It has since evolved from dance-drama style into a solo dance form.
This dance is a combination of Tandava (the majestic, masculine) and and Lasya (lyrical graceful and feminine energy). It is a combination of Natya Dharmi (conventional movements) and Loka Dharmi (realistic movements), giving the dancer the freedom to completely embody the character they display. It is said that Kuchipudi is a distinguishing and unique experience encompassing the f realistic regional style of the common man and the ethereal essence of India’s rich cultural and political history and mythology. It is a balance between Temple Dance and Theatre.
